Grand Opening For Insurance Business
The Comer and Wilson Insurance Agency will have an open house Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in its new quarters on highway 50 west. The new building which is 20 by 30 feet square was erected by George Schwab and is located directly east of his filling station. Free coffee, donuts and favors are being given away during the Saturday Grand Opening.

The new business, which handles every type of insurance, will be operated by Wm. E. Wilson and John T. Comer. The two men formed a partnership Oct. 1. Wilson has been in the insurance business 20 years and Comber four years.

Blankenship Buys Wilson Ins. Agency

Eddie Blankenship has purchased the W. E. Wilson Insurance Agency located on Highway 50 West in California, effective Jan. 1. Mr. Wilson, who has had the agency for the last six years, will continue to be associated with the new owner and the firm will be names the Blankenship and Wilson Insurance Agency.

Mr. Blankenship has been selling insurance for Metropolitan Life for about six years.

He and his wife, the for Joan Newkirk, have two sons, Jeffery and Duane.

From the 1980 History of Moniteau County:

W. E. Wilson started the business in 1960 [Editor’s note: it was in October 1959). It was purchased from Mr. Wilson in January, 1966 by Eddie Blankenship.

In 1975, Duane Blankenship joined the firm and in 1978 added Real Estate to the complete line of insurance already being offered. It is now called Blankenship Insurance and Realty.


Aaron Spieler purchased the agency at the end of 2016 when it was renamed Spieler Insurance Group.
