From the July 29, 1965 Moniteau County Herald:
Doughnut Shop Opens
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Althoff opened the Doughnut Coffee Shop in uptown California this morning. The Althoffs leased the H. T. Renfrow building the latter part of June and have been remodeling it in preparation for today's opening.
[Editor's note: Sometime around 1970 Keith Elliott purchased the business and ran it for many years. It has now passed through Calvin Gerlach and subsequent owners of the convenience store (has gone through several names over the years; currently called 5K's) located west of McDonald's on Business Hwy 50.]
