Twin Pine Motel
(Est. 1955 as Bixler Motel)
From the December 19, 1969 Tipton Times:
Bixler Motel, Inc., Is Sold
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bixler and Bill Bixler have sold their motel in southwest Tipton on Highways 50 and 5 to Thornton Huff, the Bixlers, in turn, buying Huff's improved farm of 120 acres north of Versailles on Highway 5.
Possession of the properties will be given Jan. 2.
The motel, which accommodates 16 rentals, was built in the summer of 1955 and has been successfully operated by the Bixlers since that time. It has a Triple A rating and is classified, by its many patrons, as being one of the best, cleanest and most up-to-date of any motels to be found. The Bixler home which lies directly to the west of the motel was included in the sale and it will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Huff.
Huff will continue in his work as a salesman with Embry Bros. Chevrolet, Inc., Mrs. Huff to assist in the operation of the motel.
The Bixlers are undecided as to future plans but for the present will spend a part of their time at their home on the Lake of the Ozarks where they also own other property.
From the 1980 History of Moniteau County:
In 1955 Dan, Elizabeth and Wilson Bixler saw the need of a motel in Tipton. The Dick Brothers Construction Company built 12 units, which were opened in June, 1955. Dan, Elizabeth and Wilson Bixler owned and operated "Bixler Motel" until selling it to Thornton and Della Huff, January 1, 1970.
On October 1, 1971, Raymond and Louise Dick purchased the motel, changing the name to Twin Pine Motel. They are the present [1980] owners and operators. Presently there are 26 units, eight of those being efficiency units. There is a large meeting room that may also be used for catering dinners. This motel is a top quality motel, not usually found in a small town. There is also golfing, swimming and tennis available for guests.
