Methodist Church (By 1864-1920's)
High Point
From the June 18, 1868 Loyal Journal published in California, Mo.:
The New Church At High Point
The new Methodist Church, just completed at High Point was dedicated last Sabbath. The occasion brought out the largest concourse of people that ever congregated in that village. The dedication ceremonies were delivered by Rev Dr Cary, editor of the Central Christian Advocate, after which it was announced that there was still due on the church nearly one thousand dollars. A subscription was started headed by Mr T. J. Hart, who subscribed one hundred dollars; the second name was that of Mr John W. Norfleet who subscribed fifty dollars; in this way about $825 was raised when three of the church Trustees obligated themselves to raise the remainder.
The church is a large well constructed and neat edifice. It is well furnished with seats, chandeliers and has a beautiful location. It has enhanced the value of the farms in that vicinity and is a credit to the place. Its total cost is but little over $2,500.
