A Brief History of High Point, Missouri

(From the 1889 History of Cole, Moniteau, Morgan, Benton, Miller, Maries & Osage Counties, Missouri by Goodspeed)

High Point, on Section 17, Township 43, Range 15, may be said to date its beginnings from 1831, when H. H. Simpson entered his lands in the neighborhood. The elevation is the highest in the county, hence the name. In 1843 H. W. Kelly built the first trading house, and at the same time the Sterling lead diggings were discovered and worked.

In 1874:

Thomas J. Hart, M. A. W. Jordan and J. H. Skewes, were merchants

J. F. Tising, druggist

Pountain and Miller, blacksmiths

George Phillips, wagon maker

S. W. Messick & Co, flax-mill operators

Methodist & Presbyterian societies had church buildings
